March 3rd, 2015
NT%2B2014%2Bpic.jpg
Phantom Troublemaker and the Needless Things Irregulars once again convene to discuss and review Toy Fair!

The 2015 New York International Toy Fair was held from February 13th – 17th so that toy manufacturers from all over the world could get retailers and journalists excited about their offerings for the upcoming year. Hasbro, Mattel, Funko, NECA, and many more all bring out their prototypes, concepts, and newest licenses to display in the biggest toy-oriented gathering of the year!

Due to technical difficulties, the first recording of this episode is unlistenable. Fortunately the whole crew was willing to give it another go. Unfortunately we couldn't get everybody together again. Fortunately this means that certain aspects of Toy Fair will get more attention. Like Masters of the Universe Classics.
Join Phantom and his co-host Mr. Beau Brown as they look at not only the Toy Fair figure reveals and the new 200X mini-sub, but also the MASSIVE surprise that was revealed the day after we recorded the first time!

Needless Things Podcast 43 - Masters of the Universe Classics: 2014 Year in Review

January 15th, 2015
NT43%2Bpic.jpg
Phantom Troublemaker and Mr. Beau Brown reunite to take a look back at last year’s Masters of the Universe Classics releases from Mattycollector.com!

As it turns out, 2014 was the penultimate year of the Masters toy line and Mattel delivered big. While there wasn’t a big release like Castle Grayskull, the releases were more consistently good than they’ve ever been. With impressive toys like Modulok, Extendar, and the surprisingly good Eldor, there were more highs than lows. Mattel also offered the second vehicle in the line – the Battle Ram – and yet another specialty subscription – Club Etheria.

Beau and Phantom run down all of the releases of the regular line and Beau gives attention to the Battle Ram and Club Etheria, which Phantom passed on.
Tune in and listen as two guys that genuinely love toys and He-Man have fun talking about the next-to-last year of what has turned out to be a legendary toy line worthy of the Most Powerful Man in the Universe!.

Needless Things Podcast Episode 37: New York Comic Con 2014 & Toy Guru Leaves

October 24th, 2014
NT37%2Bpic.jpg

In this week's episode we divert from Halloween festivities (sorry, boils and ghouls) to address what is potentially the biggest news the toy industry has seen in over a decade - Scott Nietlich - AKA Toy Guru - has resigned from Mattel due to an offer from an as-yet unnamed competitor.

On hearing this, Phantom Troublemaker scrapped plans for a horror toy episode and assembled the Needless Things Toy Irregulars - Mr. Beau Brown, Ryan Schweck, and Jay Hornsby, the Belligerent Monkey.

The quartet discuss the announcements from Mattel and Hasbro at this year's New York Comic Con and then delve into a discussion about the past, present, and future of the toy industry's most recgnizable name. No matter what you think of him, there's no denying that Scott Nietlich had a huge impact on the collectors' market and the way that collector toys are marketed and sld. He was passionate and innovative and worked hard to see his visions come to life and be delivered onto the shelves of fans and customers.

Tune in now ans the Needless Things crew discuss NYCC 2014 and the man known as Toy Guru!

It is time once again for the Knights of Needless Things to assemble and discuss the goings-on at the biggest media event on the planet – San Diego Comic Con!

Sadly Reverend Dan Wilson and The Oncoming Josh were unable to join us due to calamitous acts of one form or another. But we sallied forth with Phantom Troublemaker, our lovely co-host Mr. Beau Brown, the Belligerent Monkey, and Sir Ryan of House Schweck.

In this roundtable discussion we cover the SDCC reveals from our favorite toy lines – Star Wars, TMNT, DC Collectibles, Marvel Legends, Masters of the Universe Classics, and many more! This one went a little long and we still weren’t able to cover everything. But we did get in a bit of movie and television talk.

Tune in now and see what the Needless Things Irregulars had to say about the Comic Con toy scene.

Needless Things Podcast Episode 19: Masters of the Universe Classics 2013 Year in Review

April 24th, 2014

NT19pic.jpg

Yes, the picture is correct - this is Episode 19 of the Podcast. We recorded it back in January, but for various reasons I have not been able to publish it until now. This makes the image for the Stephen Platinum episode incorrect, but the numbering is right on everything now.

2013 was a huge year for Masters of the Universe and now it's time for me and Mr. Beau Brown to finally get together and talk about it. Or time for me to post our talk about it anyway. We actually recorded this back in January, but I haven't been able to put it up until now because of the restrictions I had on my hosting. Thanks to you Phantomaniacs I have finally been able to upgrade and I can do more podcasting than ever before. We'll see how that goes. I have lots of big plans for the future.

As for Masters of the Universe, 2013 was pretty unbelievable. Not only did we get the long-awaited and often thought impossible Castle Grayskull, we also got the Filmation subscription. This was a big surprise - not so much that they were doing Filmation figures, but that they dedicated an entire six figure subscription to it. Going in I really didn't know how many Filmation characters would be popular enough to warrant a six-figure sub, but in the end it turned out it wasn't about the characters' popularity, but the coolness and execution of the figures themselves

Beau and I had a great time talking about the 2013 line - as we always do with it when it comes to Masters of the Universe. I hope you guys have fun listening to us.
